Why Trails?
Trails have been shown to improve communities in a variety of ways. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) “Parks and trails are an important part of a community. In a well-designed community, homes, parks, stores, and schools are connected by safe walking and biking routes. Such routes allow all members of the community a chance to enjoy the outdoors and get physical and mental health benefits.”
Not only are trail systems integral in a physically and mentally healthy community, but they also positively impact the local economy. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, "in California, the Outdoor Recreation economy generates 691,000 Direct Jobs, $92 Billion in Consumer Spending, $30.4 Billion in Wages and Salaries, and $6.2 Billion In State And Local Tax Revenue."
Other than the improvements of the communities and positive impacts on the economy, the well built trail systems are know to draw in tourism. There are travelers who are willing to drive hours to come and experience these trails. Tourism is a powerful economic factor in Nevada County, where according to a recent study and report from Visit California, "in 2018 alone, the county saw over $361 million in total visitor spending....and 3,770 jobs generated to accommodate for tourism...During that same year, country tourism created $31.6 million in local and state tax receipts."
For these and many other reasons, we look forward to standing side by side in supporting the growth and maintenance of our community trail systems for generations to come!
